Double Consecutive Win for "Purihin Ka Ng Aking Luha"

Gerwin Villa was overwhelmed with joy when his name was called out to receive the for trophy for Song of the month. He just won last week and he was very hopeful until then that he would be joining ASOP's roster of Grand Finalists next year. An answered prayer, they say.

It seemed that his song entry didn't go through further changes except for the interpretation. Jayson Fernandez, former lead singer of Rivermaya, sang the song with more gusto as he felt the message that it wants to convey.

Other song entries for the monthly finals were "Ang Pag-ibig Sa Puso Ko" by Melvin Joseph Morallos and  "Maglilingkod Ako" by Jaymar Pascual (1st weekly winners), and "Mighty" by Nica del Rosario (2nd weekly winner).

"Purihin Ka Ng Aking Luha", Gerwin Villa's composition, won this month's finals being our 4th Grand Finalist.

"Purihin Ka Ng Aking Luha" wins Song of the Week

Composer Gerwin Villa was very thankful that he was given another opportunity to let his song be heard once again in ASOP. He didn't even expect that it would reach the finals for this month.

Ms. Pinky Amador, our guest judge for the episode, commented that Gerwin's song is "radio friendly." She wouldn't be surprised if people would hear it being played over the radio or being downloaded in iTunes and Youtube.

As for the interpreter of the song who is the former frontman of Rivermaya, Jayson Fernandez, he was thankful as well.  He expressed his admiration for the song and born fondness for the composer as they have been collaborating for the song interpretation since they got the news that they would compete again. Being a songwriter himself, he said that he learned a lot of things from the our judges' comments every time he 'visits' ASOP as an interpreter.

It was an episode apart from others, so to speak, because we have witnessed how four songs were skillfully interpreted by our guest artists and what a song composition does when it is carefully and ardently written - you have an audience leaving the theater with hope in their hearts that whatever comes their way, there is Someone who bears their pains and tears.

To GOD be the glory!

ASOP's Special Episode: Producer picks song entries for this week's elimination

Tonight's the night!

Four composers from our previous monthly elimination are going to present their song entries again for this month's 3rd weekly elimination. They have been chosen from the ones that didn't win in our September, October, and November monthly finals. Song entries have been ranked according to judges' evaluation and the first four songs which received high scores were picked.

First song entry on the list is "Pupurihin Ka Ama", a composition by Michael Gumamela who won in the first weekly elimination which was aired on Sept. 4, 2011 (ASOP's initial airing on UNTV).  "Purihin Ka Ng Aking Luha" is written by Gerwin Villa who competed a week after, in the second weekly finals.  The Moralas' (Avelino and Melchor) composition entitled, "Follow The Road", is third in rank that challenged the other song entries in the second weekly elimination last month.  Fourth song entry is "Oh Lord Bring Me Home" by Paul Hildawa who won a week after the Moralas.

Equally worth waiting for are the interpreters for these songs.  We have Carl Trazo from RPM (Real Pinoy Music, Vince Alaras from South Border, Jayson Fernandez (former frontman of Rivermaya), and Almira Cercado from the Cercado Sisters.

Don't switch tv channels if you're already on UNTV... 4 minutes more to go and it's ASOP Music Festival for you.

Enjoy!
